Mastering the Molecular Art of Organic Chemistry
The mission of the Organic Chemistry Lab is to understand organic chemistry through hands-on experiments. Students learn how to safely use chemicals, equipment, and laboratory techniques. The lab also helps develop problem-solving, observation, and critical-thinking skills.

CHGN 223 Fall 2026 Syllabus
Welcome to CHGN 223 for Fall 2026. Join us in the lab with your manual, handouts, and notebook ready. We bridge theory and practice through weekly experiments, focusing on strict safety, attendance, and pre-lab work. Success depends on your preparation and lab performance.
- Techniques: melting point, recrystallization, distillation, extraction, chromatography, spectroscopy
- Skills: safe handling of chemicals, careful data recording, and interpreting experimental results
- Major labs: separation of mixtures, purification of solids and liquids, reaction mechanisms (SN1/SN2, E2), and identification of unknowns
